Meeting the Fire Victims

I got to meet and help treat the snakes that survived the house fire today.

A blood python is in the worst shape. He was in a wood box that caught on fire, and his two box mates burned to death. He has burned eyes (pretty sure they are dead), burns on his mouth and heat sensing vents, and blood in his nose. We gave him a saline injection to rehydrate him and put an antibiotic cream on some of his burns. It's a miracle he survived. He's the top of the list for vet treatment.

There are three big Burmese snakes with facial and mouth burns.

Two King snakes and a boa had almost no burns. I have the two kings. They are adorable.

There are two monitors who are in good shape. The one I have and the beardie are in the worst shape of the 4 lizards.

They are all in sick tanks with enough heat and water for now. As they are cleared by the vet, we will put them in more permanent set ups.

Make sure you guys have working smoke detectors! Make sure they have good batteries. Check your plugs and lights for shorts and fix them. Don't increase your fire risks!!
