Smoke Inhalation Effects Continue

Scorch, the male Burmese python pulled out of a burning house in April, almost died tonight as he started coughing up thick mucus that had accumulated in his lungs.

His fearless owner spent an hour sucking globs of mucus out of his trachea to keep him from suffocating and then giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation until he started breathing on his own.

My heart stopped when I read about how close Scorch came to dying. I laid down on my bed and cried as I chatted with Scorch's owner over Messenger.

My guess is that Scorch's lungs secreted a mucus layer around the ash particles in his lungs and they collected into globs. I also suspect this is why Kindle died a couple months ago.

The effects of the smoke continue. :( I'll be heartbroken if Scorch dies. He is absolutely adored by his owner.

The fire was a nightmare in so many ways. I'm so sad that it hasn't ended.

Remember Scorch?

Scorch, the male Burmese Python, has become a local celebrity in his new town in Southern Utah. His owner adores this big guy and often takes him to the park to "play" and meet people.

This was him on April 14, 2016.

This is him now.

His weight has more than doubled.

His owner calls him a "Puppy Dog." I love the frequent updates.

Scorch and Kindle at the Vet

These two gorgeous snakes had a recheck at the vet today. I met their new owners there and was amazed at their progress.

Kindle has a mouth wound that's been treated with antibiotic drops, but looks great.

Scorch was almost doubled his body weight! He's gorgeous.

Both of these snakes are definitely living their "Happily Ever Afters."

Ouch

Sometimes checking out at the vet is more painful than others.

Here's the receipt for another round of antibiotics for Kindle & Scorch (the 2 albino Burmese pythons).

Yep. Just antibiotic shots. $166.99.

Ouch.

Big Snakes

I've never been a fan of BIG snakes. Fine for others, not my idea of a snake.

Kindle & Scorch, the 2 albino Burmese python fire victims, have changed that.

I love these guys! They are so fun and have such distinctive personalities.

We had to unexpectedly move them last week even though they were shedding. The stress of that brought back both of their respiratory infections. :( We discovered them bubbling at the mouth again tonight. 3 more weeks of antibiotics start tomorrow.

Scorch has taken up residence in his water dish.

But we bathed Kindle tonight. She was not a fan.

After bathing, she let us cuddle her for awhile.

We put her back so she didn't get too cold.

It's easy to hold them now because they are both grossly underweight. Kindle is 16 pounds, Scorch is 19 pounds. They should be at least double that. Then it won't be as easy to snuggle after bath time.

Scorch at the Vet

Scorch is the other albino Burmese python rescued from the fire. He started showing signs of a respiratory infection so he went to the vet today.

I was nervous with him because he was said to be more aggressive than the female (who I adored!), but I didn't want to appear wimpy to the vet staff. I took him out and ended up having SO much fun with him!

He doesn't have a respiratory infection, but he does have multiple mouth hemorrhages (like canker sores) all over his mouth. He'll get on antibiotic shots and on antibiotic mouth drops.

Here's only half of the pics I took:

Dr Folland looking in his mouth.

Waiting for his meds-

I never ever thought I'd like big snakes, but I love these two! I had so much fun with them. :)
