Update on Flame

Flame has been SO grumpy lately. His eyes have been half closed and he's been lethargic. I did a fecal test on him yesterday and am treating him now for coccidia.

I took him to the vet today for a blood test to make sure nothing else was going on.

Guess what?!

It came back totally perfect.

The entire staff commented that they've never had such an aggressive, angry bearded dragon before. Nice, huh?

So I'll let him finish shedding and leave him alone for awhile to see if he'll calm down. At least I know he's okay inside.

Flame

It took awhile, but I finally got Flame to be calm sitting on me.

He HATES blankies and being swaddled.

He HATES being covered.

And he HATES being held.

And he HATES my phone.

And he is HATING that I won't let him down as I'm typing this post.

But other than that, he's super sweet and loves me.

Ha ha ha!

I'll just pretend it's all because of the shedding. ;) Denial can be very useful sometimes.

But not Nova

A local pet store (that I adore) took my babies today. I totally trust them to find the twins and Feisty Bits a good home.

But they didn't want Nova because of his stumpy tail. :(

So I brought him back home.

Nova is going through his grumpy teen phase currently. Plus I had to force feed him so he extra-specially hates me too. I'll make sure I keep him & LilBit away from each other so they don't attempt to take me down in the middle of the night! ;)

LilBit, rescue 97.2

LilBit and Peanut were rescued last August from two clueless teenage boys. Both of the beardies were underweight and both had MBD.

LilBit came back to me last week as one of the 5 beardies. Boy, does he have an attitude!

He and Gizard had vet visits the other day. The tech said Gizard was a sweetie. LilBit was ...... not. At all. Ha!

He is a brat! I got him moved into a 40 gallon tank with some branches to climb on. Once I'm able to place some of my babies and have fewer beardies to take care of, he and I are going to learn to be friends. Right now, he's too grumpy and wild to ever be adopted.

It's going to take awhile, I think. He's almost a year old and that year mark makes a big difference in attitude. He's stuck in his testy teen phase. Adults are almost always more mellow and slug-like.

Sleeping Weirdo

I found Nova like this tonight-- sound asleep.

He's been grumpy lately (I am having this effect on small male beardie) and rather feisty.

Even in his sleep, he's saying "You wanna piece of me? Come at me, Bro!"

8 minutes later he fell off and we put him in a more gentle & peaceful position.

Pickle 2, rescue number 34, now known as Georgie

I got another juvenile aggressive beardie today. My daughter calls him "Pickle 2" but that won't be his official name. He's been bounced at least 4 times this year alone and hisses & puffs up at everyone. I have been sick today so I sent my hubby & kids to go pick him up. I pulled him out of the box and he was cold. So I put him on my chest and did a "kangaroo pouch" for him. He's been asleep there very since.

"Pickle 2" or whatever his name will be

I'm hopeful he'll be easier to tame than Pickle. Pickle is, at the ripe old age of 7 months, the biggest stinker beardie I have EVER met. EVER. We do have a truce and he'll let me wrap him in a towel at night and put him in my shirt. Tonight, though, when I went to pick him up, he tried to bite me several times. Everything freaks Pickle out. He is anxious and aggressive. Poor guy. It's going to take awhile before I can get him calmer.

So having Pickle 1 as a basis for what a grumpy beardie is, Pickle 2 seems to be a piece of cake.

Pickle in his favorite place-- a towel

UPDATE 12/18/13-- I finally decided to call "Pickle 2" by the name of "Georgie."
