This summer is flying by me way, way, way too fast! It's all I can do some days to keep up with my kids and my pets and my Etsy shop.
Even though my blog is quiet, I'm still here and doing what I do. :)
Just had to add that in so you didn't think I'd disappeared. I'll try to do an update on all my beardies at the beginning of next week. Zeus' mouth is finally (mostly) clearing up. Phew!

Update on Sancho
I finally upgraded Sancho to being a free-roaming iguana. I found the perfect cat tree that he can climb up and down on and hang his PowerSun Mercury Vapor Bulb light from the tall floor lamp next to his tree. He's quite happy on his cat tree and only gets down occasionally to poop on a particular spot on my floor. :)
He's growing bigger, which is good, but it's putting more pressure on his misshapen spine and making it harder to breathe, which is bad. I expect that his body will keep growing until he can't sustain himself any more. I don't think Sancho will have a long life because of how messed up his spine & internal organs are.
Sancho still adores having his head rubbed and has bitten me when I got too excited to peel off his shed skin. He prefers that I just stick to rubbing.
That long finger you see in the picture above has gotten more twisted and I'm saving up my rescue money again so I can have it removed. When they are that bent & twisted, they catch on things and it makes it harder for him to move. It costs $138 for an amputation (he's already had 2). I'm curious to see how much weight he's put on in the last few months because he's been eating great. I have a mix of 4 different pellet foods in a bowl for him and supplement that with fresh greens too.

An Update on Miss Daisy
Daisy found a permanent home with the most wonderful people. She is doing SO well and is very happy. I get frequent updates & pictures to show how well she is.
Daisy has decided that her new owners' great dane dog is her new BFF and she follows him around everywhere! When he naps, she naps; when he eats, she eats; when he walks, she walks. It is the cutest thing!
I'm thrilled that I was able to help Daisy and thrilled that she is somewhere she can grow big & old. Thanks again to all who helped donate for her surgery.

Zeus, rescue number 52
Zeus was sold last year on Black Friday and has pretty much been sick ever since. I'd been working with his 2nd owner (yes, he was bounced that fast) since this Spring. No matter what she did, she could not get Zeus' mouth to clear up.
(all my pics are blurry because my cameras have been acting up lately).
I took him in on Monday and took him immediately to my vet.
Dr Folland cleaned off his mouth, checked him for mouth rot and other issues, and sent him home with lots of medicine.
Every day, I soak his mouth with a liquid antibiotic solution and gently work off the scabs and dirt. Then I coat it with an antibiotic cream. Every three days I give him an antibiotic shot. His mouth is still pretty raw and he HATES me cleaning it. Poor guy.
He eats great and is otherwise active. I'm hoping by next week that it will look & feel much better for him. He's really tiny for being 9 months old. He needs to grow and put on some weight.

Our Sweet Lizzie
Lizzie, the boy named as a girl, our first beardie, our favorite love, our best beardie model, passed away today.
We are heart-broken. Something happened internally that was catastrophic for him. At first we thought he had overheated outside, but it was obviously more than that. After 7 years of life, 5 of those with us, our beloved Lizzie joins the host of little beardies waiting for us in heaven.
Yesterday morning we were trying on birthday hats for him and taking pictures. Can you tell he wasn't thrilled?
Then by last night, he was in bad shape.
He didn't even look like himself.
Today we thought he'd be okay in the long term so we left him in his sick tank and went to church. By the time we returned, he was gone.
My daughter got Lizzie for her 9th birthday. He was the best present she's ever gotten. We couldn't have asked for a better beardie and we'll never be able to replace him.
I will love Lizzie forever. My heart is heavy tonight. I cry for my daughter and I cry for myself.
Rest in peace, Sweet Lizzie. You will be with us forever.
