A Year with Heidi

Here is a picture of Heidi taken one year ago today.

She's tripled in size and weight. 

A Year

I took this pic of Georgie & Heidi on April 23, 2015. Both of them were about a year and a half old and both were just over 200 grams. They were the size of a small orange. 

I took this picture this morning. Georgie is on the right again; Heidi is on the left. Georgie is now 907 grams. Heidi is 1980 grams. 

A year and 4 days. Georgie is the size of a large grapefruit. Heidi is the size of a small soccer ball. 

PS. they both had pyramided shells when I got them. Neither had the right UVB light or good food. Both were eating plain lettuce. As they've gotten bigger, the uneven shells have gotten more pronounced. 

Sunshine Party

I'm Yesterday was a sunny afternoon so I opened my door and let my torts bask.

I even pulled my old girl Hermy (desert tortoise) to get some sun. She was NOT amused. 

It was rather fun and chaotic as tortoises went everywhere. 

Lil Foot the Bigger-- 

Pan & Heidi found the soft bed and heat light--

Lil Foot the Younger finds a soft boot-- 

Pudge, the only turtle, found the other boot-- 

And because they wouldn't stay in the sun, I put food down. That kept them there -- until they started pooping. Poop, pee, food, and sunshine. It was a Tortoise Party! 

Tortoise Invasion

Yes, I have a lot of tortoises. :)

Derp says "Food?" No! 

Otis says "Food?" No!!

Heidi and Derp are almost twins. 

The tortoises are fascinated by Hermy who is like the cool big sister who wants to be left ALONE!! 

Lil Foot the Bigger hung out with Hermy last summer. He used to snuggle up behind her at night and drive her crazy. He found her spot within hours of being here the other day-- she was not happy to woken up! 

Tuga discovered Hermy this morning. I tried to make a barrier. 

I went back 5 mins later and he was snuggled up to her again. Poor Hermy! 

The other favorite is cuddled in a blankie that's covering my hubby's sound board. 

Heidi always wanders around for awhile and then snuggles up to sleep. Today she found Lil Foot the Bigger was already there.

I bought a 4 foot stuffed giraffe at my favor gut thrift store. It fits perfectly in my zoo! 

Morning Heat

I often find Heidi, Georgie, and Lil Foot under the red heat lamp in the morning before I turn on their Mercury Vapor bulb.

So maybe I have a Wee bit of a Problem...

Here's the babies- from Left to Right-

T-bear, sulcata; Half Pint, red foot; Lil Foot, red foot; Georgie, leopard; Heidi, sulcata. 

T-bear is 45 grams; Heidi is 860 grams. 

After we got a line up pic, they walked around.

Growing Babies

This is Georgie and Heidi when I first got them. They were about the same size. Georgie (on left in pic below) is a Leopard tortoise; Heidi (right) is a Sulcata tortoise. 

The picture below was taken April 23, 2015. 

This next pic was taken July 21, 2015. Heidi (on the left) started growing like a weed! 

This next pic was taken August 25, 2015.

The next pic was taken October 22, 2015. 

And then Today, November 14, 2015. 

On July 24th, Heidi weighed 325 grams. 

On Nov 12th, Heidi was 831 grams. 

On July 24th, Georgie was 269 grams. 

On Nov 12th, Georgie was 522 grams. 

They are both growing fast, but Heidi is putting on 200 grams every 2 weeks.
