Dory & Squirt, rescues 98 & 99

Dory is a young female beardie with a very infected eye. :( She'll be headed to the vet soon for treatment. She still has use of her eye and can see out of it. Hopefully it will be an fairly easy (non-surgical) fix. 

Squirt is a very tiny boy. Supposed he is an adult, but he's so tiny. He eats great though and seems to be friendly. He may have had a bit of MBD, but his bones seem to be firm. I'll just watch him for a few days. 

I think I finally picked Names

Peanut (the leatherback) and Lil Bit (the little one with a stumpy leg). 

Turbo is Hanging in There

Turbo is still doing well. The swelling in his arm stopped growing and he's fairly active overall. He has good days and bad days. He still loves to be pet & scratched like a kitty cat. I have to be careful giving him mangoes or bananas because he'll take my fingers off in his zeal to eat them. 

For now there's no plan to put him down. When he stops eating or his spine/arm start swelling again or he shows that he's in a lot of pain, then I'll do what's necessary. 

Turbo is the sweetest one-eyes iguana ever. 

Update on my Sickly Beardies

Fat Lucy is doing great!! She's eating & pooping normally. Plus she's getting ready to shed which will make her look so much better.

MuShu finally is eating and pooping on her own! She started shedding yesterday and her colors are so pretty. Right now her old scales are stained from the sand she was on and she looks dull. 

Moose is about to get his last antibiotic shot and will be ready for adoption. This boy *loves* to be held! He loves to be wrapped up in his blankie too. 

The babies are doing okay. The smaller one eats on his own and is more active. The larger one gets force fed Critical Care daily. His jaw is so soft that he can't chew well. I still fully expect them to make a full recovery. They will probably just be stunted and "pocket size." 

2 Babies, rescues 96 & 97

These two babies have a pretty bad case of Metabolic Bone Disease. They've never had a UVB light or proper calcium. They were bought at a pet store by one teen and then bounced to another teen. 

Their bones are rubbery and the larger one has already started walking on his wrists. :( One of them is missing most of his back foot. 

I think I can quickly get them back to health through my calcium syrup and new UVB lights.

Their jaws are so rubbery that they can't eat every well. I will probably have to force feed them for awhile too. 

I'm still thinking up names for them which is why they are just "babies" right now. 

The reason these babies have MBD? The pet store didn't tell the teenagers to buy a UVB light. :(  Ultimately, the care for any pet rests on YOU!! Use the Internet and find out the best care for your pets. 

Tortoise Transport

My rescue buddy's sulcata tortoise needed a trip to the vet and he's been almost bedridden with a back injury. So today I drove to get Turtle Boy and get him to the vet. It's a one hour drive each way.

He rode in style.

He explored the waiting room. His poor eyes were weepy and he kept blowing snot bubbles. 

He took a nap. Every few minutes he would cough. Poor guy. 

He hated the vet! Especially getting two injections of antibiotics to help get rid of his respiratory infection. 

He wanted to leave! As soon as the vet put him on the floor, he made for the front door. 

He came home and ate some grass and hay outside. Now it's bedtime. 

He will stay with me for a week while we see if the antibiotics are enough to get rid of his infection. 

Sweet Balya

The 7 foot long, 6 pound boa we've tried so hard to save didn't make it. She started bleeding yesterday as her skin started peeling and it wouldn't stop.

She had been eating and drinking on her own, but she was too far gone. :(

2.54 Seconds

It took me an hour (because I have a cast on my right foot and can't walk on it at all) to clean all 7 beardie tanks and the baby tortoise tank.

Ziggy & Tiger-- 

They are now clean for the next 2.54 seconds. Well, except MuShu's tank because she pooped in her clean tank before I was even half done cleaning the next tank so her tank got cleaned twice. 

Milo & Max- 

I still need to clean the iguana areas, but first I need to cool down and rest for awhile. Everything takes twice as long with my healing foot. :/

The "Proper Beardie Care" page is now Complete!

I finally updated my "Proper Beardie Care" page on my blog. It's now complete. I even added pics (from Google because I'm lazy this morning). ;)
