Update on Mooshy, Dory, Delilah, and Peanut

All 4 of these beardies are doing great!

Dory still has her stitches in and will for another 2 weeks. She actually can see better out of her swollen eye now even though she'll always have swelling. She adores her blankies and snuggling at night.

Peanut is a PIG!! He still walks on his wrists but he's getting better at chewing solids with his jaw and his bones are getting stronger. He eats better and is more active now that he's alone in the tank (LilBit went to his new home on Monday).

Delilah is perfectly fine and very temperamental. Some days, she's mellow and kind and other days (like today), she didn't want to be held and bit my finger when I wouldn't put her down. She's got a ton of personality and is ready to be adopted out as soon as I finds good home.

Mooshy has finally started becoming active! This morning he was scratching at his tank so he could get out. He is eating more (he used to only be able to eat one superworm before he was too tired to continue) and putting on weight. I suspect he has some neurological issues going on because his aim is bad. He has a hard time catching insects because he misses them by a quarter to a half inch.

Mooshy is getting sun therapy today!

Except when he wants to go exploring which is a new thing for him.

100!!!

I can't believe it!! 100 rescues in less than 3 years. Thousands & thousands of dollars spent at the vet. What a wild ride.

I thought it would take longer to reach 100, but the need is great. My closest rescue was within a few miles of me; my furthest was one in LA I picked up on vacation. I don't even want to count how many I've lost. At least a dozen. They all hurt.

But it's the success stories that keep me going. The pics of beardies and reptiles in the worst possible condition looking fat & happy 5 months later are what fuels me.

Lucy is Eating on her Own

Lucy ate some of the greens I gave her this morning. That's a great sign.

Lucy is Already Looking Better

Lucy looks better now that the anesthesia has worn off.

She's hanging out with us tonight on the couch.

Lucy's Surgery

Lucy's surgery was very successful today. The vet removed over 30 eggs that were stuck in her. A few of them had started to rot so she'll be on antibiotics for awhile. They also removed her ovaries so she won't ever produce eggs again. Phew!

Her X-ray:

The eggs:

Her incision:

Her sad, sleepy face:

Lucy will get pain meds daily, antibiotic shots every 3 days, and I'll force feed her Critical Care day until she eats well on her own.

I expect she'll be up and going in no time now that she's not a bloated mess.

The Tortoise is Eating!

I did two days of saline injections to hydrate the tortoise and then tube fed him so Critical Care today (he hated it!)

But this morning and now tonight, he is going crazy eating greens and shredded zucchini!

Yippee!!

My daughter thinks we should call him "Torti-mort" because he is the tortoise who must not be named! ;) Ha!

Turbo's Surgery was Successful

(NOTE: Guess what? Turbo is actually a boy. He's about half the size he should be and looks more like a female. But he's a boy. Just to clarify the difference between this post & the last one on him)

Turbo went to see my awesome vet today. His surgery was a two part procedure.

The first step was removing the large blood clot on the back of his head. Until the vet stopped a vessel from bleeding they had to bind his head tightly. As long as I held him and rocked him, he stayed calm and didn't try to scratch at his face.

The second step was to sedate him and find out what was going on in his eye.

It turns out that Turbo had a massive hematoma (blood clot) that started in his eyeball and spread into his face. Sadly, the eye was dead and had to be removed.

He will have a week with external stitches and internal gauze in his incision along with antibiotic shots.

In a week, we'll remove the gauze. In a few weeks, we'll surgically remove some of the dead skin and extra tissue on the back of his head.

We expect him to have a full & complete recovery.

Good news!
