Oh, the Irony of a "House Pig"

I'll just be flat out honest-- we couldn't take the house pig. Seriously. He was TOO hard. He was potty trained, crate trained, food trained, kind, SUPER noisy, and fun. And he was TOO much.

We made it 24 hours with him before all of us were done. My dogs-- especially my old dog Belle-- were a mess. By the time the pig left, the two dogs had started nipping at him.

Between it being Spring Break week and having a sick Savannah monitor and a shedding tegu and a shedding silkie beardie and insomnia, I reached my breaking point.

I felt SO guilty admitting that I couldn't handle the pig. We had dreams and ideas of what a house pig would be like and we are all completely wrong.

PLEASE do your research before committing to a house pig. Borrow or rent one if you can before you buy. Cisco was used to going to different houses and was okay going back home, but some pigs are heartbroken when they get bounced again and again.

We loved Cisco, but he wasn't a good fit in our zoo.

A Kreature in my Clothes

I have a bag of clothes in my closet that I plan to give to my local thrift store. For some reason, Kreature has decided these are HIS clothes and this is HIS new napping spot. He grabbed a brown skirt with a silky lining down from my closet shelf and he wraps himself in that too some days.

He's got a thing for silky soft women's clothes. I've even moved them both out of the way, and he finds a way to pull them down. Once, he had the Target bag on his back and he was carrying it around like a tortoise shell.

When I can't find the lizard (which is surprisingly easy even though he's a big guy!), I usually check under the clothes in my closet. He's never happy when I wake him up by moving the bag aside.

Here's a video of him in my clothes bag:

Extreme Home Makeover: Tortoise Edition

My rescue buddy Joe had to have back surgery last fall, but it didn't work and he'll be having it redone this month. To help him out, I took 5 of his tortoises since he can't bend over and pick them up. They'll be staying with me for the next 6 months or so.

Two of them, Lil Foot & Otis, are mine part of the year (Joe & I share custody of them! ;) ). So these two I just took back early (Feb instead of May).

Here's the bigger Lil Foot. He's about 5 pounds.

Here's Otis. He's about 4 pounds.

I also have Tuga, Pancake, and Derp, all 3 sulcatas.

Tuga is about 8 pounds.

Derp (in front) & Pancake (hidden). They are both less than a pound.

Add these to my torts-- Heidi, Georgie, Lil Foot, & Rafe. My friend is fostering my two babies T-bear & Half Pint. And my two turtles-- Stinky Winky & Pudge.

My front room is my tortoise & turtle room.

The 3 bigger ones can free roam and have a mercury vapor bulb to bask under.

I need to create a warm hide for them at night. Last night I stuck the bigger Lil Foot & Otis in a box with a blanket.

I bought a bunch of veggies today and I'll figure out the warm sleeping set up tonight. Now I gotta figure out how to refer to the bigger Lil Foot and the smaller Lil Foot (both red foot tortoises).
