The last Two Weeks in One Post

Derek had surgery to have her eggs removed a week ago today. She seems to be doing okay!

The same day Derek went in for surgery, Justice tried to die on me. It was touch and go for a couple days, but now he is doing great. It's as though nothing ever happened.

I let Norman go to a new home where he can be an educational animal and live in a palace tank complete with a waterfall & wading pool. :)

The Savvy I rescued a couple weeks ago is doing fantastically in his foster home. He's waiting for his adoptive owner to finish building a big cage for him. The top pic is of him this week and the bottom pic is of him the day before I got him.

Poncho attended our local city parade with me and did great. He will make a great Emotional Support Animal, but will always need help eating because he can't catch his food well due to his enlarged corneas. My vet checked him out and declared him to be in good health. I'm now actively working on adopting him.

I got pics of the last two baby beardies I rescued in their new home. Tank & Raptor are owned by a 8 year old girl (and her mom) and are adored beyond belief. These are pics of them on their pet horses. I love it!

Another Savvy, rescue 192

On Saturday night, a friend from back home in Utah sent me a link to a local Salt Lake City ad that showed an adult savannah monitor not in good shape.

Poor baby! The ad originally listed the Savvy & set up for $300.

I immediately got my rescue sister on it. She managed to get the guy talked down to $50 for just the Savvy. The poor baby was stuck in a 55 gallon tank with ONE light-- a single 75 watt bulb set 18 inches above the bottom of the tank and programed to turn on for only 4 hours a day. :(

Again we feared he'd be in bad, bad shape and were happy to find he wasn't *too* bad. Every time the sunshine would hit the plastic transport box he was in, the savvy would stretch out and bask in it.

The second Marybeth got him home, he went into her bath. He was SOOO happy to splash and soak. He had at least 3 or 4 layers of old shed on him and was happy to soak it off. At first, when Marybeth would lightly splash water onto his back to get him all wet, he'd respond by whipping his tail and splashing her back.

After awhile, Marybeth reached up and started scratching his head. Oh he liked that! Then he started whipping his tail to splash her when she stopped!

After helping to get a layer or two off, she took him outside for some direct sunshine time. He did great on a leash.

Marybeth will keep him until I get home and then I'll find him either a new home or a foster home to take care of him. I'm relieved that he was a fairly easy rescue-- especially since right after he got to Marybeth's house, she took in a small Nile monitor for our rescue brother.

Junior, rescue 175 or "How my Rescue can be Relabeled 'In & Out'"

Jinzo died this morning, leaving me with an empty tank for 8 whole hours. Tonight I took in Junior, a baby Savannah monitor with severe MBD.

When I tried to gently pry open Jr's mouth, his bottom jaw folded in half. :O Yes, that is really really horrifying and very very bad. He has no strength or form to any of his bones. Poor little guy.

He's got a weird face shape too and I wonder if there's some amount of genetic problems with him too. His bones are so soft though that he will not recover without the intensive MBD treatment that only my vet can provide-- a calcium injection and a Calcitonin shot to help draw calcium back into his bones.

This guy is in bad shape, but I'm hopeful that I can save him. I've not had a great success rate with savvys before, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Adorable!

Gary Dean got his tube feeding today. And then some sunshine time. And then bath. He's so cute! He's slowly making progress. Hopefully by next week, I can stop tube feeding him.

Gary Dean, rescue 106

When it comes to my vet's office calling to ask me to help, I have a hard time saying "No." And when it comes to absolutely adorable babies that fall asleep in my hand, I am a sucker.

I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Look at this baby savannah monitor! Could *you* have said "No?"

He's a baby savvy with a mild prolapse and severe MBD.

He fell asleep in my hand while we were waiting for the vet.

I paid for his vet visit and was going to send him with my friend. But he was too adorable. He's with me for now. I have the supplies to get his calcium levels up and then I'll find someone to take him.
