Lady Dink shed today! She's been rubbing all over her tank trying to get the old shed off. She's looking great! She didn't really like it when I kept misting her, but it did help her shed quicker.

A Moist Hide for Lady Squinty Dink the Dainty Skink, Duchess of bluTonguesville
Because Lady Dink has SO much shed built up on her tail, I made her a moist hide box today. It is a plastic shoe box with a hole cut in one end and filled with damp sphagnum moss. I didn't know how long it would take the Lady to discover what it was for.
It didn't take long to find out.
Lady Squinty Dink spent the day with her hide box.
UNDER her hide box.
Silly thing!
Until her eye infections clear up, I have to keep her on paper towels and towels with no loose substrate. I guess the towels are good for sleeping under.
This must mean that Lady Dink needs her own blankie! ;)

Reptile Roll Call for January 5, 2017
Here's most of my reptile zoo (minus the 3 ball pythons who didn't want to leave their hides to have their pictures taken; I have Lucy, Sunny, & Bones). Also, Gumby, the MBD leopard gecko didn't want to come out either.
And last, but not least, Lady Squinty Dink the Dainty Skink of bluTonguesville!
We also have two dogs (Belle & Teddy) and a hedgehog (Pixie).
First the Torts. I only have FOUR! That amazes me.

At the Vet again- Part 3- Lady Squinty Dink the Dainty Skink, Duchess of bluTonguesville
Lady Dink had a great vet visit. Well, not that she liked the vet, but she got a good check up.
Dr Folland got all the built up shed and scabs off her eyes and said her eyes are permanently disfigured. She will always struggle to shed her eyelids because the shed will stick to her scars. He gave me an antibiotic ointment to use on her eyes and eyelids twice a day for three weeks.
She was not happy to be poked and prodded and pooped on the vet tech and counter top. That was great! I had them run a fecal test on her.
Her toes and fingers will never grow back sadly, but she'll be fine. Her tail is coated with layers and layers of stuck shed that I will work off after soaking her. She's a good weight and looks good.
Dr Folland went to his vet List-Serv and printed off a care sheet for me to use. The main goal now is to get her humidity established at 45% (or so). I moved her into a different cage that will maintain humidity and heat better. And of course, my neither of my foggers will work so I may need to buy another fogger for her.
The vet had good things to say about blue tongues (and yes! I saw Lady Dink's blue tongue!) and compared them to a puppy dog that is happy to see its owners. Fun!
Once I get a new 18 inch UVB tube to put in her tank and get my fogger to work, she will be in a great set up.

Lady Squinty Dink, rescue 168
The last 24 hours may set a record for intakes-- two leopard geckos, a partially paralyzed baby beardie, and tonight a Blue Tongue Skink.
Introducing Lady Squinty Dink the Dainty Skink, the Duchess of bluTonguesville!
Lady Squinty is a juvenile blue tongue skink. My first! I've always wanted to rescue one of these. I was super worried about this one though. Her eyes were sealed shut, all of her toes are missing, and the end of her tail looks like it's dead. I was most worried about her being blind.
One pic showed a large clump of dead skin and dried blood on her left eye.
The other eye didn't really even show up on the pics!
When Lady Squinty Dink arrived, the dead clump of skin seemed to be falling off. I grabbed my bottle of saline solution and squirted it all over her eyes. The one clump came off after some soaking and with a little help from a Q-tip. All of the sudden she had an eye!! Woo hoo!
Her second eye opened a little bit once I soaked it with saline and then cleaned it with a Q-tip.
Lady Squinty Dink is in a basic tank set up for now--
Tomorrow I'm taking Noel and Baby Sawyer to the vet for checkups and Dr Folland said to "Sure, bring the blue tongue along." So we'll all go. I'll have Dr Folland check out Lady Squinty Dink's eyes and tails and limbs. We'll see what he says.
