Today's Rescues

Gizard is a "sorta" rescue. I took him to help someone out. I don't have a single pic of him to post. I'll take one tomorrow.

The other 5 have put me in an awkward position. They had to be rescued from a friend. :( 4 of the 5 are babies (under 8 months old and tiny). 1 of them was originally mine and was being fostered by this friend.

The whole situation is crummy and I was heartbroken when I learned what was going on. But had I not intervened, the beardies would have died of neglect.

I have compassion for my friend. I don't condemn her. I wish she would have contacted me sooner. But it's hard to ask for help. It's hard when you are so far over your head with trauma and life that you don't know you *should* ask for help. It's hard when you start feeling guilty about what you're doing that you attempt to ignore the problem.

I don't know if any of those even apply to this situation. I'm grateful the babies are not as bad as I feared. I'm grateful I could take them. I'm grateful I could buy tanks on sale at PetCo for $1/gallon and just put the charge on my credit card.

They are all safe tonight. Today they only got Pedialyte. Tomorrow they will get baby food. 3 of the 5 had normal poop (hurray!). The tiniest one is barely 10 grams. I hope he pulls through.

I'll post tomorrow pics & such. For tonight, I'm exhausted and heavy hearted.

If my friend reads this, I hope you know I'm not angry. I hope you are able to get the help you need. Don't give up.

A New Record

6 beardies in one day. 5 in really bad shape.

Thankfully, it's PetCo's $1/gallon sale so I bought some more tanks for cheap. And thankfully I had credit on my credit card. Swiped the card and thought "I'll figure out how to pay this all of someday."

I'm still setting up tanks and collecting my wits about me.

More details to come.

Sleeping Weirdo

I found Nova like this tonight-- sound asleep.

He's been grumpy lately (I am having this effect on small male beardie) and rather feisty.

Even in his sleep, he's saying "You wanna piece of me? Come at me, Bro!"

8 minutes later he fell off and we put him in a more gentle & peaceful position.

The Creepy Stare

My daughter used my sewing machine in my craft room on Saturday. That night she asked "How do you work up there with Junie staring at you all the time? It's SO creepy."

That's Junie. He started incessantly. Sometimes it's a bored stare; sometimes it's a murder stare. When he sees my phone, it's a rage stare. See? He puts out his flap and bobs his head. He'd love to murder my phone!

None of my pics are very clear because of the sunlight in the window. Plus, when I get close, he goes crazy.

So that's me, sewing at my sewing machine and feeling the "heat of Junie's gaze" on my back.

See the towel in the window? That's where he poops. It's very nice when it's on the towel because clean up is easier. Some days he unleashes his inner beast and pushes the towel off before pooping. Then he smears it on the wall and window. Those are the days I momentarily dream about shipping him somewhere warm. ;)

Junie IS a pill! But he's MY pill.

Surprise!

Look who was out today when I got home from church!

Yay! A very good sign.

Blaze is in a very empty "sick" tank right now. Once he starts eating on his own, he'll get an upgrade to a 40 gallon tank with dirt & greenery & such.

Blaze Update

Right now, Blaze is the sickest of the fire victims. He's very lethargic and has to be tube fed.

When we first got him, he couldn't even lift his head up. He definitely more active than that, but he's got a ways to go.

His bones are pretty soft all over. They aren't as bad as Gary Dean's were, but far softer than they should be. That may explain why he's not eating.

Today he got another tube feeding and then some sunshine therapy.

I expect him to recover, but I plan on it taking a month or more.

Mooshy-- Before and After

I rescued Mooshy last fall. Here's one of the first pics I ever took of him and a pic of him from his adopted momma from last night.

I promise it's the same beardie!

Noises in the Closet

As I get ready in the morning, I often hear a heavy breathing echoing out of my closet.

Monster?

Nope.

Intruder?

Nope.

Lil Foot.

He's claimed the corner of my closet as his own. The problem is that he wets the bed (which is why he sleeps alone). I tried to make him sleep on a towel, but he doesn't cooperate.

Sometimes Otis joins him in the closet and then we really hear heavy breathing.

;)

Just one more way that I live in a Zoo!
