Update on Chomps & Grumps

Grumps is overall doing better but still isn't gaining much weight. He will snuggle in a blanket with me at night but otherwise wants to be left alone. He loves his heat lamp and spends lots of time basking under it.

Chomps still looks and acts sickly. :( I treated her for pinworms and that helped her start to poop normally. She isn't very active and sleeps a lot. It almost seems like her kidneys or liver are not working right. I plan to give her another week and then I'll take her in for a blood test to see if something internal is going wrong.

She adores her blankie too. :)

My Dogs

I have SO many pics of my dogs on my phone! Especially Teddy!

Blankies!

Most of my beardies have blankies. And they love them! See?

Some mornings they just don't get up. I can't blame them!

Long Overdue Update

I've been a blog slacker! Sorry!

Grumps still has his spastic moments but almost every night he lets me wrap him up in his blankie and snuggle him.

Chomps kept having severe diarrhea and so I did a fecal test on her, found some pin worms, and deformed her. She is still very thin and not super active, but she eats well and loves to snuggle.

Turbo got his stitches out and has learned to wear his leash. He is happy to go on walks and meet new people.

Georgie is still adorable!

Hermy has been eating great! She gets up early in the morning and walks to the back door to go outside.

Sancho got a clean bill of health at the vet today. He says she looks good & should still have a long healthy life.

Milo has had a really bloated belly, but a fecal test only showed a few coccidia. I'm treating him for that to see if it helps.

Max & Ziggy are anxiously awaiting summer so they can spend their days outside in their summer cages.

Finn is still a frightened spaz. He does let me wrap him in his blankie at night and cuddle him. He's in my shirt right now.

Here's me with FOUR snuggled beardies in my shirt -- Chomps, Grumps, Finn, & Milo.

And just for fun, here's my cute dogs:

I have foot surgery scheduled for the last Monday  of April. I'll be unable to drive for two weeks and will wear a walking boot for up to 8 weeks. My rescue will be put on hold during my recovery. I'm hopeful that Chomps & Grumps will be well enough to foster by then, but we'll see.

Sunshine

It's such a joy to introduce beardies to new wonderful things-- like good food & hot basking spots & sunny windows.

Today Chomps & Grumps got to sit in warm windows and bask. They were SO happy.

Both are eating better but still pooping out sand. Yuck! Grumps still adores being swaddled at night and calms right down.

Things are looking much better for them. I think they will be fine. :) I'm really good at fattening up beardies.

A Better Day

So far today, Grumps & Chomps are looking and acting more lively. They both got 6 cc/mL of Pedialyte this morning and a small handful of greens.

Grumps, the male

Chomps, the female

They both love their heat lamps and mostly stay in the basking area. I'm guessing they were never got hot enough before now.

Not Such a Good Day

Grumps & Chomps are really lethargic today. I think the food they ate yesterday is shocking their system. Grumps was really bad looking last night and so I gave him a saline shot. He's so thin that I could hardly get the saline in him.

Today Chomps looks terrible and is hardly moving. I gave them both Pedialyte today but that seemed to make Chomps worse. So tonight I gave her a saline injection.

They are both so malnourished and underweight that I am hoping they make it. Another sad example of how an owner's ignorance can harm a bearded dragon.

Grumps & Chomps, rescues 86 & 87

I found these two on a local ad and could not bring myself to ignore them.

Grumps is a 3 year old male who is very "Aggressive." Chomps is a 2 year old female who has only one finger on her hand. Both were on sand and are very underweight. :( Chomps doesn't even have any fat pads on the back of her head.

I gave them a bath and then put them in clean new -sand free- tanks with heat and brand new UVB lights.

Then I caught them both eating! Yippee!

Grumps is so malnourished that I'll bet that's why he's so grumpy. He did gape at me but showed no other signs of aggression. He is so incredibly thin that it's hard to look at him. :(

Good food, good tanks & lights, and lots of love. That's the plan for now.

Sending Volde-tort home

Volde-tort's rescuer came tonight to take him home. :) He's so excited to have him and add him to his huge back yard.

We weren't even sure this poor Russian tortoise would make it, but he turned around fast!! He eats like a horse!

He'll need a follow-up vet visit to see what's up with his eye, but that should be an easy fix too.

This guy was owned for SIX years without a name! So we called "He who must not be Named!" or "Torte-mort" or "Volde-tort."

He's going to have a great life now. For sure with great food, good lighting, a name, and love.
